SHOA, besides the Newsletter for Navigators, published monthly, informs daily on radio the important news for the safety of the navigation of urgent matter, such as alterations or defects in the maritime signs, report of new rocks or dangers or any other information that need to be known immediately to the vessels in the sea, only if that information hasn’t been announced on any other written media (News Newsletter for Navigators, new edition of charts, etc.)
This service is integrated to the “World Service of Nautical Radio news” to which Chile has been assigned the responsibility of diffusion of “NAVREAS”, which corresponds to the XV area which covers its coast and part of the Pacific Ocean adjacent to the meridian 120° W and from parallel 18°21’ S, to the Chilean Antarctic territory, plus an additional coverage of up to 700 miles beyond the demarcating limits of the XV area shown in the graphic. This delimitation is not related to the frontier lines among Countries, nor goes against of the layout of those lines. Radio News NAVAREA and COSTEROS established by the SHOA as zonal and national coordinator of the XV area, are broadcasted daily through maritime radio station VALPARAISO PLAYA ANCHA RADIO, at different times of scheduled broadcasting.

RADIO NEWS NAVAREA 15th
This Radio News of long-range, broadcasted by the Zonal Coordinator (SHOA) for the XV area, promulgates the necessary information for the safety of the navigation in open sea or in main courses of international trade; has as a headline the word “NAVAREA”, followed by the number 15th, which identifies the coordinator. It is broadcasted in English through the maritime radio station VALPARAISO PLAYA ANCHA RADIO, at two different times of scheduled broadcasting.

RADIO NEWS FOR THE COASTAL TRAFFIC (NURNAV)
This nautical Radio News broadcasted by the National Coordinator (SHOA), spreads the information about dangers for coastal navigation and Austral channels, inside an area of 100/200 miles of coast; preceded by the word “NURNAV” (Urgent News to Navigators) and it is broadcasted by the maritime radio station VALPARAISO PLAYA ANCHA RADIO, at different times of scheduled broadcasting.
According to the level of urgency or priority of the information, it is classified as vital, important or for scheduled broadcast.
The NURNAV stops broadcasting a piece of news or any abnormality when the situation becomes outdated, or has been selected to be included in the Newsletter News for Navigators. In the last case, the advertisement will be kept up to 10 days after it was published in the previously mentioned Newsletter.

REGIONAL RADIO NEWS (NURNAV – REGIONAL)
The maritime radio stations of ANTOFAGASTA, TALCAHUANO, PUERTO MONTT and MAGALLANES, besides VALPARAISO PLAYA ANCHA RADIO, repeat the NURNAV, daily broadcasted by the SHOA, those advertisements that directly affect their coverage areas, are broadcasted in Spanish at different times of scheduled broadcasting.
NATIONAL SYSTEM AND INTERNATIONAL NAVTEX
The national and international automatized system of direct printing NAVTEX, is a coordinated service for the diffusion trough broadcastings in mid-frequency of 518 kHz (english) and 490 KHz (spanish) of nautical radio news, information about search and rescue, meteorological forecasts and urgent information for vessels navigating inside the jurisdiction, up to 400 nautical miles.
